It’s all about location

American Samoa is located in the Pacific Ocean, half way between Hawaii and New Zealand with the geographic coordinates of 14 16 S, 170 42 W. We are five hours flying time direct from Honolulu, Hawaii and 25 minutes by air from Apia, Samoa.

How to get here

Visitors can fly directly from Honolulu, Hawaii and Apia, Samoa to American Samoa. Hawaiian Airlines offers two flights a week from Honolulu to Pago Pago on Monday and Friday nights throughout the year.  During the peak seasons, Christmas and summer time, a third flight is added to the weekly schedule. Polynesian Airlines also offers daily flights from Apia (Fagali’i Airport) to Pago Pago International Airport as well as flights onto the Manu’a Islands.  Talofa Airways also offers daily flights from both Faleolo International Airport and Fagalii Airport in Samoa to American Samoa. Air New Zealand, Fiji Airways and Virgin Samoa offer regular services from New Zealand, Australia, Fiji and Hawaii into Apia, Samoa where visitors can then connect with Polynesian Airlines or Talofa Airways.

Weather Forecast

American Samoa has a tropical climate all year round with two distinct seasons, the wet and dry season. The wet season is between November and March and the dry season from April through October with the average daily temperature around 86˚ Fahrenheit or 30˚ Celsius year round.

What to wear

Light cotton summer clothing is recommended all year round. Swimwear is appropriate for the beaches but when going to the villages please cover up or put on a t-shirt, shorts or wear a lavalava (sarong).  If going to church on Sunday, slacks and shirt for men and a nice dress or blouse and skirt should be worn for women.  If you’re not sure just ask someone.


The United States Dollar is the currency of American Samoa. Major foreign currencies can be exchanged at the local banks.

Banks & ATM’s

American Samoa has two major banks on island, the Bank of Hawaii and the ANZ Amerika Samoa Bank. Bank of Hawaii (BOH) is located in Tafuna and opens from 9.00am to 3.00pm Monday to Friday. BOH ATM machines can be found at: KS Mart; LBJ Hospital; Laufou Shopping Center; BOH Tafuna branch and Executive Office Building in Utulei. ANZ Bank Amerika Samoa (ANZ) has branches in Fagatogo (main branch) and Tafuna open from 8:30am to 4:00pm Monday to Friday and 9:00am to 12:00 noon on Saturdays (drive-thru only). ANZ ATM machines can be found at: Laufou Shopping Center; KS Mart; Cost U Less; LBJ Hospital; Starkist Satala; ANZ Fagatogo branch and ANZ Tafuna branch.


All visitors to American Samoa require a valid passport of six months or more; return ticket or onward ticket and sufficient funds to support your stay. US Citizens and US Nationals do not require a visa and may enter and leave freely.

Citizens of the following nations are not required to have a Entry Permit to enter American Samoa. Travelers from these listed countries must hold a Non-Expired Machine Readable Passport and the expiration date must not be more than six (6) months at the time of travel:
