A public holiday observed on the fourth Thursday of November by President Abraham Lincoln in 1863. Thanksgiving Day is a time where people give thanks for the what they have. The first Thanksgiving Day is recognized as the Autumn Harvest feast of 1621 shared between the Pilgrims and Native Americans of the New World (New England); and established the basis for this holiday, where families and friends gather together to share a special meal of turkey, stuffing, potatoes, cranberry sauce and pumpkin pie. Grand parades and epic athletic events are also part of this holiday's festivities. Thanksgiving Day also marks the beginning of the Christmas Season. Americans put up their Christmas Decorations during this long holiday weekend and kick off their Christmas Shopping during Black Friday, which falls on the day after Thanksgiving Day.
