The AmericanSamoa Coastal Management Program (ASCMP) will host the 2016 Coast Weeks Celebration this month from September 12-24. Prior to the official kick-off of the Coast Weeks program will be the Island Wide Coastal Cleanup Day held on September 9. The program will kick-off September 12 with the Paddle Challenge including friendlies, lessons, and rides on outrigger canoes, kayaks, stand-up paddle boarding, and Samoan traditional “va’a” demonstrations. The paddle challenge will run throughout the two week celebration along with activities geared for audiences of all ages, such as PNRS Day, GIS Day, Educational Tours, Wetland Tours, Coastal Stabilization Day, Art & Tide Calendar Student Drawing Competition, and Cleanest High School Challenge. A Family Fun Beach Day Su’igaula (Utulei Beach Park) will end the 2016 Coast Weeks Celebration with a day of activities, game booths, educational booths that highlight our natural resources, local food, and entertainment as well as the championship matches for Coast Week’s paddle challenge.
